Inspired by Ireland’s Cliffs of Moher, this scene was painted with heavy-body acrylics applied with pallet knives to create varying textures throughout the piece. You may pick up a shifting sheen at different viewing angles to emulate the glistening waters of sun-kissed seas.

This abstract villa scene was Inspired by Italy’s stacked abodes along the coast. The painting is composed of all the earth tones with hints of metallic gold, pearlescent white, and glistening copper. The work was first shown in 2013 at the Art Museum of the University of Memphis summer exhibition. This painting consists of many layers and textures on archival-quality natural cotton canvas.

Inspired by Monet’s subject, I worked from photographs taken by family members who had visited his famous Giverny garden and those I captured at Cheekwood in Nashville. He is one of the reasons I started painting many years ago and has influenced the melding of an impressionist style in many of my paintings. In homage to one of the greats and my all-time favorite artist, I hope you enjoy a moment of zen when you look at this piece.

Nashville’s Parthenon
This painting was part of an exhibition held by the Centennial Park Conservancy and The Chestnut Group, a local nonprofit organization of Plein-Air painters. I love painting outdoors and throughly enjoyed the chance to join this group in capturing Nashville’s iconic Parthenon. As a full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens, our version currently serves as an art museum but was originally erected in 1897 as part of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition.

The beauty of abstract expression is how no two people will see the same subject. I often hesitate to name my abstract pieces to avoid planting suggestions about what a painting “means.” A painting may be important to me for very different reasons than it is important to you. This piece, however, resonated strongly with me in it’s promise of matriculation from one phase of life to another. You may see something different. That’s one of the reasons I love art so much.
